The Food We Eat Is The Self Belief We Have

Nutrition is always a subject that has many different points of view and people focus on their own food intake for many different reasons.

Gandhi recognised the mastery of palate as the most important factor in opposing the British Empire. He considered it the heart of self-discipline and by gaining control of the palate, you gain control of everything else.

This is the high level goal of mastering ones palate - the mastery over oneself.

I was once a nutritionist for a private healthcare clinic and saw first hand what people consume is connected to trauma, lack of self belief and control.

In other words what we eat is done so to fulfil and reinforce a belief about ourselves.

The food we eat is closely connected to the beliefs that we hold and our capacity for adversity.

Let’s cut everyone some slack here and say not many people master their food.

I’ve seen entrepreneurs, athletes and coaches like myself all struggle in this domain.

This is why, it is critical to look at the beliefs someone has when they are attempting to lose weight, get fit or some other similar goal.

Food is used as a reaction to our emotions and self image.

For instance, to put someone straight on a daily intermittent fasting routine ,thinking praising the benefits of the plan will be enough to create long term success, is to not understand the existing belief that created their current situation.

I’ve been there and done it myself, as a coach to others and attempting to move beyond the self image I held.

It was through this experience that led to providing frameworks like E.V.V.S - Escape, Value, Vision & Sacrifice.

It is here people focus on not going without but what they wish to escape from, the value they can attach to this, the vision that arises from this value and ultimately to hand over the parts of themselves they were never meant to be.

This is powerful stuff and it is through this vision, it no longer becomes about losing weight but an entirely new life, self image and new opportunities.

As one of my clients said to me - “People no longer recognise who I am.”

This is real change, not flirting with an idea of transformation but a genuine transcendence from the self image that locks many people into a life they never intended.

Food for thought!
