Why Young Men Follow Andrew Tate

May 12, 2025

Online influencer Andrew Tate is no stranger to controversy and there is a firm objective coming up to dissuade young men from following him online.

Rather than shut the conversation down on why young men lean in to the teachings of Andrew Tate, we should hear what they have to say, so as to establish what young men are looking for within themselves.

I have collected some recurring statements from the young men I coach and this is what they have said:

“He says what he thinks without worrying about what people think of him.”

“He is tough and strong and he inspired me to start training.”

“He calls out the lies and they don’t like it.”

“He doesn’t encourage you to be weak but tells you to be strong.”

Whether people want to hear it or not, these are qualities that are inspiring young men and if they are dissuaded from exploring this particular part of their character, they will find it elsewhere.

It doesn’t mean they become emotionless, locked down robots but on the contrary, a young man will be far more resilient, healthier and responsible if he is encouraged to explore all aspects of his masculinity.

This void that has been created, is what I’ve been pointing at for years.

If we encourage weakness, fragility and emasculation in young men, it causes catastrophic harm and they will look for these missing qualities somewhere else.

This somewhere else can often be extreme influences because this is what happens when a boy is made to feel shamed due to gender, race and normal emotions.

The crisis of young men is nothing more than the failure of society and a reflection of the harm it has caused.

The obsession over the drama Adolescence is another distraction and a way of shutting down a more useful and helpful conversation.

The U.K want to put the blame back on the boys instead of having the courage to realise the society we have created is the problem.

If there is going to be any serious attempt to turn things around for young men, those that are going to try, must understand what young men want and not just revert back to using shame, guilt and fear.

Shaming, guilt and fear as ways of control are only instigated by those who also live in shame, guilt and fear.

It is these tactics that will not just push young men to online influencers but will further create a problem by suppressing the parts of them that need a voice in a positive way.

The hardest task we all face is talking to young men from a position that will inspire and guide them.

They need to be told the truth not societal lies and harmful trends.

This is a good question for all men, especially those who have the most important and influential role - fathers, followed by teachers, those within political roles and any man that finds himself influencing young men.

Before any man opens his mouth to lead a young man, he could take a good look in the mirror first and ask yourself:

“Am I really in a position to talk to young men about justice, honour, truth and courage, or is just conformity or projecting my own fears?”

This will not just encourage a huge number of men to become more but hopefully question who really is in a position to advise young men.

I’ve used the quote by Political writer Thomas Sewell before but it still rings true especially when teaching or coaching children:

“The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.”

If one wants to change anything in society, it starts with the man in the mirror.

This is the only way it will ever work.

This summer is the launch of Young Kingmakers - A real solution for the angst of teenage boys.

No use of guilt or shame but an inspirational way of courage, self-discipline, honour and resilience.
